Take who you need

An installation plan I developed in 2020, using and training a StyleGAN2 model on fingerprint photographs to generate new, unique fingerprints for the piece.

At some point, we've probably all felt like someone was missing from our lives—a sibling, a friend, a lover, or someone else who never existed. I used machine learning to give form to these imagined identities.

By training my own StyleGAN2 model on a large dataset of fingerprint photographs, I generated new and unique fingerprints for this purpose. I chose fingerprints because they are one of the most unique parts of our bodies, yet they are 'empty' by nature. They are merely vessels, and it's up to us to 'fill' them.

This installation consists of thousands of life-sized, generated fingerprints, printed, cut out, and assembled. Visitors are invited to take one home and 'fill' it with the identity of the person they feel is missing most in their lives.
